The necros arent good at straight damage, I tried. I used blood magic and death magic for a while, now im using aa curse/blood/soul reaping build which works atleast 10xs better, you can see my build posted in these necro forums, its called "My "Beatdown Degen"" , Elementalist would be better for direct damage.

straight dmg is easy - use a blood spike build. Offering of blood, Shadow Strike, Vamp Gaze, Barbed Signet, Vamp Swarm ect... u could also bring support spells eg well of blood, blood ritual, Blood is Power, Well of Power... or if u wana go degen bring Life Siphon + Life Transfer.
Lots of combos to use.

Blood damage is the best kind of damage in the game. It ignores armour and most protection spells. shadow strike, vamp gaze/touch/bite, enfeeblin blood+opressive gaze (thats shadow strike with multi target). For degen, not many players like life transfer since there are better elites and bad recharge time. If you got factions, add vampiric spirit and your dmg output will go sky high.
I also got an air ele. Its a totally different animal. The huge mana pool kinda makes up for the lack of soul reaping. but vamp dmg heals you while ele needs xtra enchantment to keep themselves alive
so go for a 16blood, 9 soul reapin, and the rest in curses.

I would suggest Vampiric Spirit, but I dont want someone whos new to the game running into the thick of combat...
Try Discord. It lets you shut down the enemies abilities, while spamming easy damage against them. Its also Curses linked and if you see the damage Spiteful Spirit, FOC, and Defile/Desecrate can do, you wouldnt be saying 'no curses'.

"The Bleeder"
Profession: N/Me
Type: PvP or FoW
Category: Extreme high damage dealer
Attributes:
Blood - 12 + 1 + 3
Soul reaping - 8 + 1
Domination Magic - 10
Skills Set:
Dark Pact
Soul Leech
Life Siphon
Shadow Strike
Vampiric Gaze
Plague Touch
Rez Sig
Backfire
Summary:
What can i say, it works. Great against casters and even warrior cuz they can't block the spells.
To fight a warrior:
Start with Life Siphon, Dark pact, Shadow Strike, Darkpact, Vamp Gaze. Use Plague Touch once they get close.
To fight casters:
Use Soul Leech and Backfire. If they're dumb enough they'll be dead in 3 seconds.
Notes & Concerns:
Mesmers can still interrupt you, rangers can too. Take the Mesmers out first and hide behind objects so the rangers arrows dont hit you.
Fighting a warrior is as easy as Plague Touch.

Would that be a good build????

Do you have Prophecies, Factions? Where is your necro starting out?
Some skills are specific to where you're at and how easy they are to buy them or cap them.
also some helpful new player hints...
press and hold Alt = See all nearby npc's
press and hold Ctrl = See all nearby enemies.

There isn't good, direct caster damage in Guild Wars. Necromancers can dish out a lot of damage but a lot of it comes in the form of degen. Your best bet is to multispec, drop 10 pips on a lot of guys, then finish off targets with Dark Pact + Vampiric Gaze.
Peace,

Pure Direct Damage (no health degen, hindering, no interupts)
Greneth's Balance (e)
Vile Touch (Death)
Putrid Explosion (Death)
Death Swarm (Death)
Deathly Chill (Death)
Desecrate Enchantment (Curse)
Chilblains (Curse - should use Plague Touch to avoid poison on yourself)
Vampiric Touch (Blood - Prophecies)
Vampiric Bite (Blood - Factions)
Vampiric Gaze (Blood)
Unholy Feast (Blood)
Touch Of Agony (Blood)
Signet Of Agony (Blood - should use Plage Touch to avoid bleeding on yourself)
Shadow Strike (Blood)
Dark Pact (Blood)
Barb Signet (Blood)
As you can see, there are a lot of spells that do direct damage. Vampiric Gaze, Touch, Bite, Unholy Feast and Grenth's Balance are the only spells that heal you (I don't really know much about Faction Spells, so I don't really list any except 1)
I don't think there is a truly tested "good" build for a direct damaging only Necro. So my suggestion is to use these spells and test what works for you. Vampiric Spirit has been mentioned, but I don't think that is a direct damaging spell (more like an enchantment I think).
A good elementalist build can be found in the Elementalist forum.
I love my N/Me. Its a conditional damager, but the computer AI makes all of my conditions met.

Stats:
Blood/Curse - Max Blood & Curse, rest in Soul Reaping
Blood/Illusion - Max Blood & Illusion, rest in Soul Reaping
Curse/Domination - Max Curse & Domination, rest in Soul Reaping
MM - Max Death & Soul Reaping, Rest in Blood
Armor & Equipment:
Max defense armor (I don't use the Defense of 70, b/c of extra damage vs holy damage)
Weapon (max damage, +10 or higher energy, fast cast or faster recharge)
Off-hand (+12 energy, fast cast/fast recharge)
This is what I've been using, +1 to attributes are fine, if you can find them, not necessary though.
I use +1 scar for Soul Reaping (you don't need to change it for any build)
Runes, you can use whatever you like (I don't use them, I have Sup runes, but I don't care about using them. Don't ask why).
Hope this helps.

No. A secondary Profession Monk is never bad. There are a few Necros out there that become MM and use Heal Area or Healing Touch to heal themselves when they sacrifice their life to heal their minions (using Blood of the Master). You can also get smiting skills to use as well as the direct damage from the Necromancer. There are some good combos with N/Mo as a direct damager.
Gl and enjoy.

If i wanted to maybe include a little curses since i dont think that pure blood would be good, what would i do??? Or would that be a bad choice?

you can do anything you want. but you need to try everything or you wont understand it. unlock every skill you can and give it a whirl. you wont be great overnight at any game and if you were that game wouldn't last.
read the skills. write them down and compare. see what stands out, what sounds good to you, and give it a try. some skills go hand and hand so try obvious combos.
if you're on the factions side you don't have Spiteful Spirit. i'd make the journey to tyriaand cap it. in pve you can take SS and nothing else and still be more productive than a lot of builds.

The two best curses, in my opinion, are Spiteful Spirit (e) and Parasitic Bond. If you read any post that asks about spells, skills, curses from the Necro side, you'll find my post almost always has Parasitic Bond. It is one of the best cover hexes in the game. It does health degen -1 (no big deal), it heals you (big if you max curses) when it ends or is removed, and it acts as a cover hex for your real curse.
Curses are great for a necro. You can use them with a MM (cast tainted flesh) or cast enfeebling blood. Cast Barbs or Mark of Pain (minions do physical damage), Chilbains + plague touch is good, Desecrate Enchantment is good vs those who love enchanting themselves or others, Faintheartedness is okay, Insidious Parasite + enfeeble is good, Price of Failure is good.
I don't like going pure curse (pure blood is okay). A little bit of curse and blood is good.
